Domain Flipping as a Business Opportunity

Online Business Opps Can Work

As a business opportunity, domain flipping can be quite a cost-effective option. Let's face it - almost everyone's looking for an online business that they can make a decent amount of money at, without spending a lot of money on. There are many companies and opportunities out there that promise the earth but deliver very little, yet that's to be expected. After all, it's only through work and determination that anyone will make any decent money at any job, online or offline. Yet with domain flipping, you have a good chance of making money without too much expenditure.

What is Domain Flipping?

Domain flipping is a very straightforward process, and simply involves you buying domain names to resell. The only real trick you need to know is understanding what domain names would be the ones to sell for a good profit (especially since many domain names are as little as a dollar to buy).

So How Do I Make Money?

If you're interested in domain flipping as a side business, the first thing you need to do is set up an account with a domain host. Someone like GoDaddy is excellent, as not only are they extremely affordable, they also allow you easier transfers of any domains you sell.

Once you have an account to host your domains, you need to start the business of buying and selling. There are a few ways you can do this, and depending how serious a business you want to make it, some might be better than others. For example, online auction site eBay is a good starting point if you're just looking to test the waters. If you're more serious-minded, then you might want to look at GoDaddy's very own Aftermarket & Domain Auctions. Here you can find thousands of domains for sale at varying prices.

Know The Market

Like any business, domain flipping will really start to make you money if you know the market or keep up to date with what's hot. For example, the videogame market is huge at the minute and shows no sign of slowing down. So, a domain like "ultimatevideogames.com" could be a great domain to buy and sell to a video games retailer. Additionally, the property market is always a good one, so something like "lookingtobuyahome.com" would be perfect.

While these are two of the more obvious examples, they both go to show that knowing what's hot (or what will be hot) is the way to succeed. Just like keywords are used to find websites themselves, so they can be used to your advantage when buying a domain. As an example, everyone uses credit cards, so you'd imagine it would be a good keyword search, with people looking for the best deals. And you'd be right - creditcard.com was sold for a cool $2.75 million in 2004. And now it's just a portal advertising various credit card companies and deals, so the owner of the domain is probably making even more money from advertisers paying for spots! Not bad for a simple domain name, huh?

You might not make as much as that, but domain flipping can offer a great side income for anyone looking to have their own online business. Happy hunting!

Fascinating information.  I had heard that pizza.com sold recently for a huge amount.  Whoever nailed that one down early on was a genius.

I have been hearing about domain flipping for months but it never really clicked in until this morning for some reason, maybe too much on my plate.

I am taking today to learn more about domain flipping and perhaps by the end of the day I will be on my way to being a domain flipper myself.

Thanks for the info.

If your looking for a way to get into the lucrative domain business by buying and selling domains then it would be a good idea to take a look at DomainFlipClub.com They supply everything to get started included the best expired domain software and video training. Many of their members are making big profits registering domains for $8 then reselling for 10 times that amount.

@Smallbizpro,You presented domain flipping business as an easy business model but in reality is is not. It takes lot of effort and understanding to succeed with domain flipping. A time was there when dictionary names with dot com extensions were available and thus domain flippers flipped domain like creditcard.com or other high value domain names. But now the scenario is different.Nothing is left unregistered. Lot of new country level extensions are there to choose allowing customers have the same name with different domain extensions thus increasing the competition of this business.Still there is potential if done right.Site flipping is more viable in this respect.

Domain name flipping has been a source of earning money. There are people who have managed to flip domain names three or four times than the actual cost amount they purchased the domain names.

I was surprised to learn how a teenager bought a domain name for only six hundred and twenty dollars only to sale it for twelve thousand dollars.
